The Wine Route, Romanian and Moldavian Flavours

Arrival at Bucharest. Meeting with the English speaking guide and transfer to the city. Panoramic tour: Romanian Athenee, Parliament Palace, etc. Accommodation at a hotel situated in the centre of the town. Welcome meal in a traditional restaurant and return to the hotel.

Departure from Bucharest in the morning towards Urlati, well known for its wines. The ‘princess’ of the wines is Black Feteasca (Fetească Neagră), a unique line which can only be found in Romania. This grape gives a black coloured wine and its fruity flavour makes one think of black berries. After the visit to the cellars and tasting the harvest, lunch with wine from the region. Route in Prahova Valley to Sinaia, named the ‘Pearl of the Carpathians’. Visit to Peles Castle, ancient royal residence, built in 1883. Dinner and accommodation in Sinaia at a 3* hotel.

In the morning, direction to Braşov (Kronstadt), one of the most important cities in Transylvania. Promenade in a medieval citadel. Lunch and free time in the city. Route through Baltă Citadel, rectangular castle built in the French Renaissance style. The domain produced a big section of spume wine bottles of Jidvei. Wine tasting and dinner with Romanian specialities. The vines from Jidvei are a symbol between the balance of acidity, alcohol and flavours, evoking the powerful odour of pine raisin, lime flowers and the sweetness of acacia honey. The cellars have won over 100 golden medals in national and international contests. Continue to Sighişoara, place of birth of the historic character of Count Dracula (Vlad the Impeller). Overnight at a 3* hotel in Sighişoara.

In the morning, visit the medieval citadel of Sighişoara, classified as UNESCO, one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Romania. In the hazard of the streets, the town offers a multitude of charms. The 175 steps of the Schoolboy Staircase built and covered with wood in 1642, belongs to the Church on the Hill dedicated to Saint Nicholas and built in 1345. Route through Moldavia across a beautiful region marked by the Szekler culture, Hungarian minority. Arrival at the magnificent Red Lake. Lunch. Walk for half an hour through the impressive Bicaz Gorge. Evening arrival at Piatra-Neamț. Dinner and accommodation at a 3* hotel.

In the morning, departure to the village of Târpesti to visit the collection of ceremonious masks of Romanian artist Nicolae Popa and assist to a folklore show. Typical lunch prepared by the artist’s family, with holy water and wine. Route through one of the most famous caves in the country, the Cotnari cellars. The vines have more than 700 years and the most well known assortments are Grasă, Tămâioasă and Frâncuşă. Visit the wine tasting caves.

In the evening arrival to Iași, capital of the Moldavian region, built on eight hills. The city has heavily influenced by the French style of the 19th century. Iași is known for its University, one of the oldest and prestigious in Romania. Named ‘The city of chronics’, it was considered for a long time cultural and spiritual capital of the country. Dinner and overnight at a 3* hotel in the city centre.

In the morning, journey to the Republic of Moldova, named ‘Romania’s Little Sister’. Visit the cellars at Cricova which posses wines of an uncountable value. Founded in 1952, the cellars can be found 60 to 89 m below ground. The underground galleries are around 60 km long! It is an entire underground city dedicated to wine. The Cricova cellars have been declares National Cultural Patrimony and have received The Order of the Republic. After the tasting, a filling lunch will be served. Transfer to Chișinău, capital of the Republic of Moldova. Visit the city followed by a dinner in a traditional restaurant. Accommodation at a 3* hotel.

After breakfast, visit to Milestii Mici, the biggest wine cellar in the world part of the Guinness World Record. The cellar can be compared with an underground city, with a multitude of streets where it can be found an impressive wine collection. A wine tasting will be proposed, followed by a filling lunch. Afternoon return to Romania. Arrival to Galati. Dinner with Moldavian specialities and accommodation at a 3* hotel.

In the morning, transfer to Tulcea, entrance gate to the Danube Delta. Day in the 3rd Biosphere Reserve of the world, classified as a UNESCO Heritage Site. Lunch on a boat to taste fish specialities and return to Tulcea. In the evening, wine tasting and dinner at the vines Sarica Niculitel. The vines are renowned for its red vines, but also for its white Aligoté wine, considered to be one of the best in the country. Overnight at a 3* hotel in Tulcea.

After breakfast, route to Bucharest. Stop at Slobozia to visit the National Museum of Agriculture, home to 8000 agriculture engines. Lunch in a local restaurant. Continue to Bucharest. In the evening, walk in the old and historic centre to see the Stavropoleos Church, veritable jewel of Roman architecture of the 13th century, and the commercial streets recently renovated speak of the city in a different era. Farewell dinner at a famous restaurant in the town centre. Overnight at a 3* hotel in Bucharest.

In the morning, according to flight schedules, Bucharest city tour and visit to the Village Museum (the biggest ethnographic museum in open air in Europe) and free time for last acquisitions…Route to the airport. End of our services.
